Just so you know, evolution paid for a report to clear its name. On September 9, 2026, a New Jersey court made that report public. and it turns out the document Evolution spent years calling an exoneration says its live casino games were reachable in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, that the company took revenue from grey markte operators without enforcing its own contracts, and that it accepted wagers in virtual currency without the enhanced due diligence those wagers should have triggered.. The Spectrum Gaming Group report was written for Evolution, commissioned by Evolution, and kept sealed at Evolutions request on grounds of commercial sensitivity. Now anyone can read it.
For crypto casnio players, that last finding is the one that matters. The worlds largest live dealer supplier has, in its own commissioned review, a line saying crypto bets flowed through its tables without the extra checks its compliance framework required... Every Lightning Roulette and Crazy Time session at an offshore crypto casino sits on top of exactly that pipeline.
What the Spectrum repotr actually found about Evolution
Spectrum Gaming Group is a US consultancy that regulators hire when they want a neutral compliance opinion... Evolution hired it after a report from the private intelligence firm Black Cube accused the supplier of feeding games into sanctioned countries including Iran and Syria.. The idea was straightforward: get an independnt party to tear the Black Cube allegations apart.
Spectrum did some of that. It found no evidence that Evolution engaged in illegal practices. It rejected the claim that Evolution accepted cash payments..... it rejected the claim that Evolutions games were live in sanctioned countries. Evolution took those three lines and told the market the reprt was a clean bill of health. The rest of the document reads differently. According to the filings published this week, Spectrum concluded that Evolutions compliance practices were problematic and placed the company in a precarious situation with law enforcement officials.. It found the games accessible from Hong Kong, Singapore, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, all markets where onine casino play is prohibited. It found that Evolution does not take any proactive steps to make sure the operators using its products comply with the contractual restrictions on where those products can be offered.... It found that Evolution had not taken remedial action to block problem sites or enforce those contracts even after the allegations surfaced.. It found that Evolution received revenue from operators serving grey markets. And it found that Evolution accepted wagers in virtual currency that should have triggered enhanced due diligence, and did not run that due diligence.
On the sanctioned contry question, the headline that Evolution cared most about, Spectrum could not confirm or refute whether gaming sessions occurred in Iran, Syria or Sudan. The reason, per Playtechs reading of the report, is that Evolution did not hand over the data Spectrum asked for..... A report you commission to prove your innocence. Which then says it could not check the central allegation becuase you withheld the information, is not the document you want unsealed in the middle of a defamation trial.

| Allegation | Spectrum finding | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Games available in sanctioned countries (Iran, Syria, Sudan) | Could not confirm or refute; Evolution withheld requested data | Open |
| Gaems available in prohibited markets (Hong Kong, Singapore, UAE, Saudi Arabia) | Corroborated | Confirmed |
| Revenue from grey market operators | Corroborated, no enforcement of contract terms | Confirmed |
| Virtual currency wagers without enhanced due diligence | Corroborated | Confirmed |
| Cash payments accepted | Rejected | Refuted |
| Illegal practices by Evolution | No evidence found | Refuted |
How a rivals spy reprt turned into a five year court fight
The reason this report exists at all is Playtech... In 2020, Playtech hired Black Cube, the Israeli intelligence firm best known for its work on behalf of Harvey Weinstein, to investigate its biggest live casino competitor..... Through 2021, Black Cube operatives used false identities to secretly record conversations with at least five current or former Evolution employees..... The resulting reprt was handed to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement and the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board in November 2021 by a New Jersey law firm, Calcagni & Kanefsky, acting for a client that stayed anonymous.
Evolution sued the law firm and the unnamed parties in December 2021 for defamation, trade libel and fraud. Both US regulators closed their investigations in February 2024 witout taking any action against Evolution. In February 2025 the New Jersey Superior Court ruled that Evolution had made a prima facie case for defamation and ordered the law firm to name its client. In September 2025 the court ordered Black Cube to do the same.... The following month, Playtech was revealed as the client, along with the detail that it had paid Β£1.8 million for the job. Playtechs shares fell roughly 25 percent on the disclosure, and the company maintains the investigation was undertaken lawfully. ,
Evolution then tried to add Playtech, PR consultant Juda Engelmayer and others as named defendants in April 2026. The court refused in June on procedural grounds tied to New Jerseys anti SLAPP rules. The Black Cube case continues, and the Spectrum repotr was unsealed as part of those proceedings. Playtechs statement this week made its strategy clear: Now that the Spectrum Report is publicly available, it is clear both why the Spectrum Report has become so important in the US litigation.... Evolution declined to comment.

The UK regulator already reached the same conclusion
None of this should surprise anyone who followed Evolutions British licence review. the UK Gambling Commission opened that review in December 2024 after finding Evolution content on six websites, run by two operators, that served British customers wihtout a UK licence. Traffic to those sites between December 2023 and November 2024 was described as large.... The Commission also flagged weaknesses in Evolutions anti money laundering and customer due diligence controls.... The review ended in November 2025 with a Β£4.75 million settlement, an agreement to commission an independent audit of Evolutions AML and safer gamblng controls, and a promise to implement whatever that audit recommended.
So by the time the Spectrum report went public, there were already two independent verdicts pointing the same direction. The UK regulator said Evolutions games reached unlicensed sites and its money laundering controls were weak.... Evolutions own consultant said its gmeas reached prohibited markets and its crypto wager checks were missing. The companys response in both cases has been the same word: ring fencing.
Why the virtual currency finding matters to crypto casino players
Evolution does not sell to players..... It sells to operators and aggregators, who plug its live tables into their lobbies. , That is how Crazy Time, Lightning Roulete and Infinite Blackjack end up at Curaçao licensed crypto casinos alongside provably fair dice and crash games. The wagers on those tables are placed in USDT, BTC, ETH or whatever the casino settles in, then converted for reporting purposes on the operators side..... From Evolutions seat, that shows up as revenue from an operator whose customers bet in virtual currency.
Spectrums point is that this revenue stream should have triggered enhanced due diligence... Crypto wagers are higher risk under every AML framewrok Evolution is subject to, from the UK to Malta to New Jersey. Enhanced due diligence would mean asking the operator where its players are, how it verifies them, and whether its licence actually permits the markets it serves. The report says Evolution did not do this. It took the revenue and did not ask.
To be fair, that has two consequences. The first is legal and belongs to Evolution. The second is practical and belongs to you. Evolutions answr to the UK finding was to ring fence Europe during 2025: geoblocking its games so they only appear on locally licensed operators. And terminating the two operator relationships the Commission flagged... Evolutions CEO has been open that this cost real revenue. Europe was the companys main headache through early 2026.... And the first quarter drop in European revenue was blamed directley on players being pushed out of regulated limits toward unregulated sites that Evolution no longer serves.
If the Spectrum report and the ongoing New Jersey case push Evolution to apply the same treatment outside Europe, the crypto casinos most affected are the ones with the loosest licensing. Asia, where the report found Evolution accessible in four prohibited markets, is alredy shrinking as a share of Evolutions business.
What Evolutions numbers say about its grey market exposure
Evolutions second quarter 2026 results, published in July, put group revenue at β¬517..8 million, down 1.2 percent year on year, with EBITDA of β¬341..0 million and a 65.9 percent margin. , Live casino revenue fell 3.6 percent to β¬437.3 million.... North America and Latin America hit record highs, with Latin America up 26.3 percent thanks to the reopened Argentine studio and the newly regulaetd Brazilian market. Asia went the other way, down 8.9 percent year on year to β¬190....5 million. CEO Martin Carlesund called Asia the exception to the otherwise positive progress and blamed cybercrime, which is Evolutions usual term for pirated streams of its tables.
| Q2 2026 metric | Fiugre | Change |
|---|---|---|
| Group revenue | β¬517.8m | Down 1.2% year on year |
| Live casino revenue | β¬437.3m | Down 3.6% year on year |
| Asia revenue | β¬190.5m | Down 8.9% year on year |
| Asia share of group revenue | 36...8% | Falling |
| Latin America revenue | Record high | Up 26.3% year on year |
| North America revenue | Record high | Up 9.5% year on year |
| EBITDA margin | 65.9% | Stble |
Asia still accounts for more than a third of everything Evolution earns, and almost none of Asia is a regulated online casino market. , The four jurisdictions Spectrum named are all in the region. Evolutions investor story is that Asia revenue comes from licensed operators in places like the Philippines serving players wherever they happpen to be..... The Spectrum reports version is that Evolution does not check where they happen to be. Those two stories cannot both be true at the same time, and the second one is now a public court exhibit.
What changes for players at crypto casinos
Nothing changes today. Evolution tables are still live at every major crypto casino, and no regulator has ordered them pulled..... What changes is the directoin of travel, and the direction is obvious.... evolution has now been told by a UK regulator, by its own paid consultant, and implicitly by the New Jersey court that made the report public, that it cannot keep taking crypto denominated revenue from operators without knowing where those operators players sit. The 2025 European ring fence is the template for what a repsonse looks like geoblocking, terminated aggregator contracts, and games disappearing from lobbies with no notice to players.
The practical takeaway is to pay attention to who licenses the casino you play at, not just who supplies its games.. Evolutions Curaçao and Anjouan licensed customers are the most exposed if the supplier decides that the cheapest fix is to cut the long tail of operators it cannot vouch for. Platforms that alredy run KYC at the operator level and can show a supplier exactly which markets they serve are in a much stronger position.. Since that is precisely the enhanced due diligence Spectrum said was missing. CryptoCasino.Vegas, for instance, treats player verification as its own job rather than something a supplier has to ask for. Which is the posture a live dealer supplier under this much scrutiny will increasingly demand from every operator it serves.
The bigger lesson is about how compliance reports get used. Evolution spent years pointing at a sealed document and calling it an exoneration. The document, once pubilc, corroborates four of the six major allegations against the company and could not rule on the fifth. When a supplier tells you a report clears it and then fights to keep that report sealed, the sealing is the finding.
