Spain Caps Deposits at €3,300 Across Every Online Casino Combined

October 29, 2026
Chicken-Road Play Now

Spain just killed the oldest workaround in regulated gambling. In October 2026, the consumer affairs ministry switched on a single deposit cap that follows the player, not the account. Default limits are €700 a day, €1,750 a week and €3, 300 every four weeks, counted across every licensed online casino and sportsbook the plyer uses.... Open five accounts, and you still get one allowance. The system is in its testing phase now and becomes binding in late March 2027.

For roughly a third of Spains online players, that is a hard ceiling where there used to be a polite suggestion. for everyone else, oddly, it is a small raise.

What is Spains joint deposit limit?

The rule comes from Royal Decree 520/2026, approved by the Council of Ministers on 23 June and published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado on 25 June.... It adds a new Articl 36 bis to Royal Decree 1614/2011, the regulation that has governed Spanish online gambling licences since the market opened.

Under the old model, every operator applied its own default limits of €600 a day, €1, 500 a week and €3,000 a month.. Those limits never talked to each other. A player who hit the cap at one site simply logged into antoher, and the regulator had no single view of how much one person was depositing in total.

The new model flips that. The Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) runs a central tool that checks each deposit against the players combined activity in real time. Once the combined total reaches a limit, no licensed operator is allowed to accept anoter deposit.. it is a block, not a warning... Operators do not share player data with one another.. they query the regulators system, and the DGOJ acts as the data controller.

The cap applies to online casino, poker and sports betting alike...... Any per operator limits a player already set stay in force underneath the joint ceiling, so the stricter of the two allways wins.

Who actually loses money under the new cap?

The ministrys own figure is that about 31% of active online players in Spain gamble on more than one operator... that group is the target, and the math shows exactly how hard it gets hit.

CryptoCasino.Vegas research compared the old per operator ceilings with the new joint cieling for players holding different numbers of accounts. The result is lopsided.

Accounts heldOld maximum per month (€3,000 per operator)New maximum per four weeks (joint)Change
1€3,000€3, 300+10%
2€6,000€3,300−45%
3€9,000€3,300−63%
5€15,000€3,300−78%
8€24, 000€3,300−86%

A single account plyer now has slightly more headroom than before. A player spreading deposits across five brands loses more than three quarters of their default capacity overnight........ The regulation is not really a cap on gambling. It is a cap on account hopping.

Why the €700 daily limit is mostly a headline

The daily number got the press coverage, but it is the least importent of the three. The four week limit is the one that actually binds, and it binds fast.

LimitAmountDays at full €700 before it bitesImplied average per day
Daily€7001€700
Weekly€1, 7502.5€250
Four weeks€3,3004.7€118

A plyer who deposits the full €700 on a Friday and again on Saturday has already used 42% of the entire four week allowance in 48 hours..... Max out the weekly limit once and you have €1,550 left for the next three weeks. Do it twice and you are locked out, with two full weeks still on the clock.... Weekend bingers will hit the wall long before anyoen who spreads small deposits evenly.

Can players raise or remove the limit?

As it turns out, yes, but Spain has deliberately made it slow and slightly annoying. The rules work like this

Clearly, lowering a limit takes effect immediately.

Raising or removing a limit triggers a three working day reflection period before anythin changes.

Another increase cannot be requested until three months have passed since the last upward change.

Every change goes through a dedicated procedure that includes reinforced information about gambling risk. In other words, the system lets adults decide for themselves, but only after a cooling off period long enough to outlast most tilt sessions. That is the whole desgin. Friction is the feature.

What is the new Player Portal?

Alongside the cap, the ministry launched a free Player Portal on 21 October, accessed through Spains Cl@ve digital identity system. , It is open to any citizen, with or without a gambling account, and it does a few things most operators have never volunteered.

Real talk, it shows deposite, stake, win and loss histories across licensed operators. It sends spending alerts. It lets players manage their joint limits in one place. It lists every gambling account linked to the users identity. Which will be an uncomfortable surprise for anyone who forgot about the sportsbook they signed up for during the last World Cup. It also produces downloadable activiyt certificates.

The combined view is arguably more significant than the cap itself... For the first time, a Spanish player can see their real net position across the whole regulated market, not the flattering version each operator chooses to display.

How does Spain compare with Germany and the Netherlands?

Mostly, spain is not the first European makret to count deposits per person. It is, however, the most generous of the strict ones.

MarketMechanismDefault ceilingCross operator?
SpainDGOJ joint limit system€700 per day, €1,750 per week, €3,300 per four weeksYes
GermanyLUGAS central limit file€1,000 per month, raisable to €10,000 with proof of incmoeYes
NetherlandsAffordability check thresholds€700 per month (€300 for players under 24) before checksPer operator

Germanys LUGAS system, live since the 2021 Interstate Treaty, set the precedent with a €1,000 monthly limit tracked across all licensees. Spains four week cieling is more than three times higher. That matters, because Germany is also the cautionary tale..... its channelization rate has been estimated at around 77%, meaning close to a quarter of activity sits with operators outside the licensed system entirely.

Will the cap push Spanish players offshore?

The regulated market is not small.. DGOJ data put Spains onlne gross gaming revenue at €1,698.7 million in 2025, up 16..8% on the year before. online casino alone produced €891.1 million, or 52....5% of the total.... In the first quarter of 2025, the monthly average of active accounts passed 1.74 million. From experience, The cap only counts deposits at DGOJ licensed operators. A USDT transfer to an offshore crypto cassino never touches the system, never appears in the Player Portal and never counts toward the €3,300. spanish players who move offshore also leave behind every protection the new framework creates, including local dispute handling and the combined spending view. That trade is real, and the high volume multi account players losing up to 86% of their default capacity are precisely the ones most likly to weigh it.

Make no mistake, operators are not thrilled either.... In a 2025 consultation they disputed the DGOJs estimate of €130, 000 per operator to integrate with the system..... And licensees now have roughly five months to finish that work before the cap becomes binding. A separate consultation, which closed on 22 October, proposes a mandatory mounthly test requiring operators to screen accounts in the first seven days of every month against the previous 183 days of activity. The direction of travel is obvious.

What Spanish players should do before March 2027

Check the Player Portal now. The testing phase is live, and the account list alone is worth a look. Close dormant accounts you no longer use.

Plan aorund the four week number. €3,300 is the limit that will stop you, not €700. If you deposit in bursts, expect to hit it in under a week of active play.

Request increases early, if you want them. The three working day wait and the three month lockout between increases mean last minute changes will not land when you need them.

Consolidate. With one shared allowance, holding eight accounts no longer buys extra capacity. It just spreads the same budget thinner and multiplies the number of bonus terms you have to track.

Technically, every serious market is drifting toward the same idea: the player, not the platform, is the unit that gets measured. Platforms outside that model compete on a diffrent axis entirely. CryptoCasino.Vegas, for example, processes withdrawals automatically without manual queues, so the players own wallet is the only ledger that matters... Spain has chosen the hard limit.... Whether players stay inside the fence will decide if the policy works.
